A nice, fairly isolated campground. Each site is well separated, and fairly spacious. When we went there was a good mix of RVs and tenters. However, at that time (August long weekend), there was an unbearable number of mosquitoes. We arrived around 8, and the they are supposed to come around to sell firewood until 10:00 pm. Unfortunately, they did not come around after we had arrived, so we had no firewood. In fact, they didn't even come by with firewood until the next day close to 11:00, well after we had breakfast. Maybe on a normal weekend, that would have been okay, but not really acceptable on a long weekend when the grounds were full. The signs says there are local places you can pick up firewood, but this wasn't an option for us since we arrived on motorcycles.
Nice day use area. 2.5 - 2.75 hrs from Calgary but it was worth it! The road after hwy 774 is a gravel dirt road but it was in pretty good shape. I didn't mind all the dusts afterward. There are picnic tables available for use. Outhouse is descent, with tissue and hand sanitizer. No cell coverage made it more special, our teens and kids did not check their phones and opted to hike around. A few meters walk from parking and you'll see the stream of water and Castle falls. The view of the falls is really nice. I didn't swim or soak in the water but there were people cliff jumping like crazy, really fun atmosphere. its like a small haven for campers and those who just want to cool off. I tried fishing but wasn't able to catch any, but still ok. The waters are clear. I'll definitely be back for sure! Bring your family, kids, and pets too!
Fantastic spot to camp. Great campsites. Swimming at the falls is awesome on a hot day.
Beautiful campground, with mostly large, relatively private sites. I would suggest you reserve before you go, but if not there is a first come- first served loop as well. I think those ones are the ones that back onto the river, so if you are willing to take a chance it might be worth it! The outhouses are a little smelly, although we did see the Alberta Parks staff cleaning them every day. The Castle Falls are not huge falls, but beautiful nonetheless. There is no cell service for miles around here, just FYI.Bring your own firewood. The stuff we bought from the park staff was wet and moldy, and $8 a bundle.
Amazing river- crystal clear. New facilities too. Great place for a swim
